The Wildwood Suite
These cameraless images are an extension of the series I call Gardening the Planet. They are digital scans of biological specimens picked up on the daily, 3012-pace walks that I take with my dog around Wildwood Park, where I live.
Reproductions are large – up to 112 cm. x 250 cm. or more. Inkjet prints are produced on photo-rag paper. The sub-series, identified by a ‘WWS’ prefix are 18” x 12” prints presented in a manner reminiscent of 18th Century, botanical watercolours and prints, an acknowledgement – and critique – of the underlying Judaeo/Christian/Linnaean view that still guides much of humanity’s power and control attitude toward the planet.
Oh – and they’re also a simple celebration of how extraordinary it is just to be alive; of how lovely even something so banal as a leaf can be. As Robinson Jeffers said, “…It is only a little planet, but how beautiful it is …”
